New Discounted UPS Shipping Rates

As of June 2011 we will be offering even lower UPS shipping rates. As a high-volume shipper we receive preferential rates and pass that savings along to you. You pay what we pay without additional handling fees. For example, a 50lb. package will cost just $17.92 for a UPS Zone 2 residential delivery address.

For LTL shipments, we will request a spot quote from the freight carrier to ensure the best rate.

Free Freight

We will offer free freight on any Retail order of 500 Lbs or more within the contiguous 48 U.S. states (excluding Glass Media, Blaster Buddy & Kodiak Chink Pump). Please allow up to 7 business days for delivery. For faster delivery, regular shipping rates will apply.

Delivery Time

The following is an estimate of delivery times. Once your order is shipped, its delivery is out of our control. Please plan you project accordingly.

Orders of in-stock items received before 12:00 P.M. P.S.T. will ship the same day.

Domestic U.S. orders shipped UPS Ground or LTL Freight will arrive in 1-7 business days, depending on your proximity to Perma-Chink Systems Inc. store locations. In remote locations, delivery may be delayed 1-2 days.

Domestic orders shipped UPS 2nd Day Air or UPS Next Day Air typically arrive as scheduled, but cannot be guaranteed.

If your order shipped by UPS Ground, UPS Air, or LTL Freight, does not arrive on time, notify us and we will track it for you. If you place your order online, you may also track it yourself with the tracking information provided in your Notice of Shipment e-mail.

Orders to Alaska and Hawaii shipped by U.S. Postal Parcel post usually arrive in 5-10 business days and by U.S. Priority Air In 3-5 business days.

Delivery time varies greatly with International orders, but typically takes 1-4 weeks. We do not ship to Canada, Mexico, or Russia. (see dealer list)

When You Receive Your Order

Check your order on arrival and notify us immediately of any shipping damage. If possible, take a photo of the damage and send it to us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . All merchandise ships in approved containers and heavy-duty boxes. Despite out best efforts, damage in shipping can occur.

Check to see that you have received all of your items. If the wrong item has been shipped or if your order is incomplete, notify us immediately. As part of our commitment to customer service, we double check every order before it ships, but despite our best efforts, errors do occur.

It is important that you notify us immediately of any problems with your order. Perma-Chink Systems, Inc. will only honor claims for damaged merchandise or shipping errors (wrong item shipped or short-shipment) for 14 days from date of receipt.

Shipment of Replacement Items

We realize that damaged products or shipping errors on our part can cause major delays in your project. To minimize the inconvenience, we will make every effort to replace the products in a timely manner. Usually, replacement products will be shipped the same day that we are notified by the same shipping method as the original order (orders originally shipped UPS Ground will be replaced by UPS Ground, 2nd Day Air by 2nd Day Air, etc.).

Lost Orders

We realize that a lost order can cause major delays in your project. To minimize the inconvenience, we will make every effort to track you order and replace it in a timely manner, if necessary. If a lost order somehow arrives after the replacement has been shipped, please refuse one or the other order and the carrier will return it to us.

• You must request a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) from Perma-Chink Systems, Inc. prior to returning any merchandise.

• All items must be returned in new, unopened, resalable condition.
• A 15% restocking fee applies to all returned merchandise (waived for exchanges).
• If you are returning merchandise from an Invoice that qualified for free freight, we will deduct the freight amount from your return, according to our UPS freight chart.

Follow Chris Hastings of Pacific Chinking Log Home Restoration Consulting Services week by week as he completely restores a log cabin on Whidbey Island, WA. (Chris Hastings has been featured on Home Time TV series and many log home magazines. )

Q:  Chris, could you tell our website visitors what caused all this wood rot?

A:  The major problem is in the design of the house. The house was designed improperly for the building site. The extensive damage on the lower third of the wall on the exposed side of the house is due to the unsufficient overhangs and water damage.

Q:  What kind of work will you do to bring this house back to life?

A:  The first step for this project is exterior corncob blasting, followed by log repairs, washing and brightening the exterior wood surface, applying borates to preserve the logs and interior and exterior chinking.

Lets take a look at what Chris has been done so far.

Due to the rainy weather, Chris couldn't start any work outside, so he did interior chinking. In places where old mortar fell off between the logs, Chris used Grip Strip prior to Perma-Chink chinking application. Grip Strip reduces the amount of chinking needed to effectively seal the gaps between the logs.

After interior chinking was completed, Chris used Blaster-Buddy finish removal system and corncob media to remove old finish and clean the logs.

Next Chris will cut away some of the logs.

Exterior visible water damage promted Chris to cut away the outer half of this log which shows major water damage in the log's core.

>You can see how carpenter ants ( which are attracted to high moisture content in wood) have the ability to destroy logs in your log home, often in a short period of time, and in this case, causing major structural damage.

Prevention of water intrusion by using a high quality log home finish (Lifeline Ultra-2 & Lifeline Advance( and sealants (Perma-Chink and/or Check Mate) would have helped eliminate this costly problem.

Following the treatment of Shell-Guard and Oxcon to brighten the wood (see week #3), Chris installed one window to the left for better appearance of this home. Now that house is protected against wood-destroying insects, an application of stain and topcoat will not only enhance your home's asthetic appeal, but will offer protection as well.

The transparent stain will protect your wood from the damaging effects of UV exposure. We recommend one coat of Lifeline Advance (clear coat finish, similar technology used in the automobile industry) over the stain color for protection and extending the life of the pigments in the stain. It also will give a maximum protection against water penetration.

Prior to the last step of chinking the featured structure, Chris Hastings and his crew replace the outer half of the structurally damaged lower log with a fresh, sound log section.

The final step in the restoration process is to chink all seams (both vertical and horizontal).

It's almost done. Chris will use epoxies to repair log corners.

The next step for Chris is to repair the rotted ends of the logs. This part of the log maintains the greatest chance of becoming damaged and losing structural integrity. The reasons are:

1. It's the part of the log that is most likely to be exposed to nature's elements
2. It's the part of the log that will always absorb water most easily
3. Wood leaving an exposed surface that's been cut against the grain is softer, thus easier to be infested with wood destroying pests.

What Chris will do is "build up" the log using M-Balm, a resin applied to the soft wood to give it a strong, hard foundation to which he will apply E-Wood, a two part putty compound which will be molded into place. Following the curing of E-Wood, he'll have a stainable, lightweight "manufactured" log that is strong enough to hold a nail or screw.

These pictures illustrate how Chris can also use the E-Wood as a form fitting gasket into which he will place a perpendicular log to achieve a weather-tight seal, or simply to fill in a large void.

You can see this restoration project at the point of completion. Notice (compared to week 6) the log replacements (extending out from the horizontal wall) and the chinking that has been applied to the vertical joint to ensure the termination of water and air infiltration.
