The Juniper house is modern but rustic design. The floors down stairs are acid stained concrete and polished finish. The upstairs are circular sawn tongue and grove Douglas fir rough side up. The wood floors were sanded semi-smooth and then stained with Lifeline Ultra-2 Light Natural; then coated with Sure Shine Floor finish. Sanded and repeated four times.
The roof system is structural insulated panels with Glue Lam ridge beams and Douglas fur hand hewn 6” x 8” Timber raised cord trusses. The ceiling in the great room and second level bedrooms are designed with milled antique pine. The hand hewn timber trusses, ceiling and milled Douglas fir are all stained with Lifeline Ultra-2 stain and sealed with Lifeline Advance Gloss topcoat.
Joanne suggested adding the UV boost to all interior stain. The UV Boost is a stain additive to help reduce UV damage to wood. All trim, windows and doors are stained with Lifeline Dark Natural and finished with Acrylic Gloss clear topcoat.
The wall of Trapezoid windows is wrapped with milled Douglas fir and stops only for the massive native stone fireplace on the west. The fireplace stone is coated with Acrylic Gloss. The mounting timber and the mantel are of reclaimed Douglas fir stained with Lifeline Ultra-2 Light Natural. This is the highest durability stain and finish for log or wood homes.
The kitchen cabinets are mission style quarter sawn oak. The master bathroom consists of real Travertine stone custom double shower. Upstairs bathroom also has real travertine stone floor. The windows are bronze clad outside and wood casement inside. The interior doors are all mission style fir. Side entry doors are all glass with clad exterior and wood interior.
The outside of the house is Timber corner trusses and 2 x 10 log siding and vertical rough sawn fir in the gables. The entire bottom of the house is native stone veneer. The siding is all caulked with Energy Seal “brown” which blends perfect. The siding and windows are chinked with Perma-Chink “medium grey”. Backer Rod was used around the windows and doors. The interior ceilings and trusses were sealed with Energy seal sealant “cedar”.
The color on the outside is a medium color but does not hide the wood grain and goes on well with the chink. It all came together nicely to create a historic lodge look with all comforts of a modern home.
The huge ponderosa pine trees and water and wildlife make for a nice setting along with the Perma-Chink Systems products used to capture the beauty and detail of the home inside and out.
