Cedar Wash

Surface Prep Cleaner for Cedar

Cedar Wash is a ready-to-use cleaner specifically formulated for preparing wood species that contain high levels of wood extractives and resin oils. It is ideal for cleaning cedar decks, log siding, and surfaces without damaging the wood.

We highly recommend Cedar Wash Wood Cleaner for the following: Western Red Cedar, Redwood, Walnut, Mahogany, Southern Pine, Douglas Fir, Spruce, and Cypress log homes.

Proper application removes dirt, grease, grime, pollen, and surface stains before applying Lifeline™ exterior finishes, Log & Timber Defense, or Deck Defense.

Cedar Wash ready-to-use wood cleaner removing resin oils, dirt, and stains from bare cedar and other resinous wood before finishing.

Shop Available Sizes

Whether you’re preparing a small section of siding or an entire exterior, Cedar Wash is available in two container sizes. Both arrive ready to use, so the focus stays on preparing the wood rather than mixing products before work begins.

Product Information

Bare wood is not always ready for stain. Every finish depends on the surface beneath it. Residue left after construction or stripping affects how evenly a finish bonds across the surface. Cedar Wash helps correct that problem before application begins.

Features

  • Effective formula for Western Red Cedar, Redwood, Walnut and Mahogany
  • Removes resin oils and wood extractives from the surface
  • Removes dirt, dust, pollen, and other foreign substances from wood surfaces
  • Environmentally friendly
  • Ready-to-use formula requires no mixing before application.
  • Suitable for preparing new construction and previously stripped wood surfaces.
  • Helps improve surface conditions before staining cedar siding, decks, and log homes.

Replace the lid securely after each use. The extra effort prevents contamination. Cedar Wash should remain in the original container. After cleaning cedar decks or surfaces, store where freezing temperatures and extended periods of heat can be avoided.

Keep the surface uniformly wet during cleaning. Prep cleaners perform best when applied from the bottom of the wall upward. The solution needs time to loosen residue without creating streaks. Finish with a thorough top-down rinse. Wood must dry completely before applying primer or stain.

Routine cleaning does not require this product. Bare wood exposed after stripping, media blasting, or heavy sanding benefits from another treatment before a new finish is applied. Proper preparation at that stage creates the right conditions for the next coating.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cleaner FAQ

Why do I need to wash my log home?

Log homes tend to collect more dirt and debris because of the rounded logs. The top of the log collects debris, making the home look dirty. Log Wash is designed to keep your home looking great and maintaining an excellent finish.

Which cleaner do I need for my log home?

We offer two cleaners, Log Wash and Cedar Wash. Most log homes will use Log Wash, but homes with Cedar, Redwoods, etc., will need Cedar Wash. Read more about choosing the right one here.

How do I treat dark stains or grayed wood?

We offer two products designed to restore the bare wood from stains and weathering – Oxcon and Wood ReNew. Read more about what they do here.

We loved finding a product that we knew would be appropriate for our logs, which were filthy due to putting off washing for too long. The price was better than we expected for a specialty product too. It was recommended on several log home forums, and we’d recommend it too.

I have used Log Wash twice on my house in the last three years. The first to prepare for re-staining and the second as an annual clean up. Both times the product has worked as advertised. Easy to use, easy on and easy off. Clean up was good and no damage to plants around the house. It is definitely one of my favorites.

I attended a Saturday event in Colorado and was so very surprised that my dingy logs were just dirty. I picked up a gallon of the Log Wash and in just an afternoon my home looked like new again! Thanks Perma Chink!!

Wood Renew was recommended through an on-line chat with Perma-Chink as a cleaner for our new to us older log cabin. It had not had any maintenance performed on it in years and had grayed considerably. The Wood Renew along with a pressure washer took away all the dirt, mold, and grayed wood and brought our cabin back to a like new appearance. From that point it was stain, topcoat, and enjoy!!
