Lifeline Exterior Semi-Transparent Wood Finish
Exterior Stain Colors for Log Homes
For over 40 years, we have continually improved our original exterior log cabin stain. Lifeline Exterior forms a thin film at the surface of logs where they’re most vulnerable to weather and damage.
Breathability and flexibility allow logs to expand and contract throughout the seasons while protecting their inner structure from damage. Apply a clear topcoat of Lifeline Advance over our exterior stain to maximize durability and minimize maintenance and labor costs.
Rather than masking the surface, this finish enhances depth while maintaining a consistent tone across larger areas. Perma-Chink log home exterior finishes help balance appearance without creating a flat or artificial look.
Lifeline Exterior Available Sizes
Choosing the right size depends on the surface you’re working with and the number of exterior stain colors you plan to test. We offer free samples of exterior stain colors to compare tones directly on your wood.
For partial projects or smaller structures, 1-gallon containers provide enough coverage without excess. Larger homes or full exterior updates typically require 5-gallon pails for consistent color application from section to section and depends on the square footage you need to cover.

How to Store
Color consistency starts before application. A product stored in extreme conditions may behave differently once opened. Keeping containers sealed and in a controlled space helps maintain predictable results across coats.
Application Process
First, conduct a quick test on a clean surface. Initial outcomes impact the final appearance. Apply Perma-Chink exterior stain colors evenly. Use a brush or sprayer. Then, follow up with back-brushing. Doing so will work the finish into the grain.
To avoid visible overlap lines, maintain a wet edge. Attention to detail increases effectiveness when working across larger sections. Also, consider multiple light coats rather than a single heavy application for noticeable color depth.
Maintenance
Log home exterior finishes gradually lose color due to UV rays. If fading is noticeable, perform touch-ups to refresh appearance without requiring a full reapplication.
